Flexible Stone

What is Flexible Stone?

Flexible Stone is a lightweight cladding material made from natural materials and real stone, designed in thin, flexible sheets for walls, facades and architectural surfaces.

It offers the look and texture of solid stone, travertine and rammed earth, eco friendly and significantly less weight and greater versatility, making it suitable for residential and commercial applications.

This guide explains what Flexible Stone is, how it works, where it can be used, and why it’s becoming a popular choice for both residential and commercial projects.

What is Flexible Stone Made From?

Flexible Stone offer two distinct product lines. Natural Stone such as marble, limestone slate and granite are quarried products. The other is made from blending clays with inorganic minerals, similar to terracotta. The products are moulded and/or pressed into shape, then placed in a kiln creating a versatile surface of colour and style.

Flexible Stone Natural Stones are:
  • Quarried from genuine stone
  • A thin section is taken from the quarried block
  • A backing is applied to support the thin stone surface.
  • It retains natural colour, texture and variation of the stone it came from
  • Is lightweight compared to traditional stone slabs
Flexible Stone Clay based stone are:
  • Selected clays are made into slabs
  • Inorganic minerals are added for colour
  • 3D printing technology is employed for variation of the surfaces
  • Pressed and kiln dried for curing
Consistency is maintained with both product lines, however, no two are exactly the same, variations are a major characteristic of the products we provide.

How is Flexible Stone Different from Traditional Stone?

As the name implies, the thin nature of the stones makes them flexible. Curves are now simple to achieve. No more wasted stone with grinding it into shape.

A light weight product means it is easy to install. At 10kgs for the full size stone, one person can carry and install these sheets. Traditional stone slabs are heavy, thick, and require structural support and specialised installation. Flexible Stone provides a modern alternative.

Key differences:

Weight
Flexible Stone is significantly lighter than solid stone, making it easier to transport and install.

Thickness
Thin stone sheets allow installation where full slabs are not practical.

Flexibility
Flexible Stone can be applied to curved surfaces, columns and detailed architectural features.

Installation
Can be installed using standard construction or tile adhesives depending on the application. See our Installation Guide for more information.
